This delicious Banana Cream Cheese Cake is the perfect dessert for any occasion, combining the rich flavors of ripe bananas and creamy frosting.

- 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 ½ teaspoons baking soda
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon (optional)

- ¾ cup unsalted butter, softened
- 2 1/8 cups granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs, room temperature
- 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
- 1 cup buttermilk, room temperature (or 1 cup milk + 1 tbsp lemon juice/vinegar)
- 1 ½ cups mashed ripe bananas (3–4 medium)
- ½ cup chopped walnuts or pecans (optional)
- 8 oz (226g) full-fat cream cheese, softened
- ½ cup (113g) unsalted butter, softened
- 4 cups (480g) powdered sugar, sifted
- 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
- 2–3 tablespoons whole milk or heavy cream
- Pinch of salt
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
- In another bowl, cream the butter and sugar together until light and fluffy.
- Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition, then stir in the vanilla.
- Alternate adding the dry ingredients and buttermilk to the wet mixture, starting and ending with the dry ingredients.
- Fold in the mashed bananas and nuts, if using.
- Divide the batter between the prepared pans and bake for 25-30 minutes.
- While the cakes are baking, prepare the frosting by beating together the cream cheese and butter until smooth. Gradually add the powdered sugar, then mix in the vanilla and milk until you reach your desired consistency.
- Once the cakes are cool, frost with the cream cheese frosting and serve.
Notes
- For a lighter flavor, substitute half of the granulated sugar with brown sugar.
- This cake can be stored in the refrigerator for up to a week.
