Description
This homemade slow cooker applesauce is made with juicy Golden Delicious apples and flavored with cinnamon and nutmeg.
Ingredients
Scale
- 10 large apples (I used Golden Delicious)
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar (or more to taste)
- 1/2 cup water (or apple cider)
- 2 tablespoons lemon juice
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon fresh ground nutmeg
Instructions
- Peel, core and cut apples into quarters.
- Place in slow cooker, sprinkle sugar, cinnamon, water, lemon juice and nutmeg over apples. Toss to combine.
- Cook on low for 5-6 hours or high for 3-4 hours.
- When apples are soft, use a potato masher or fork to break up any large chunks. If you want a smooth applesauce, use an immersion blender or let the apples cool and place into a blender and blend until smooth.
- Store in refrigerator in an airtight container for up to a week, or freeze for up to 3 months.
Notes
- This recipe can be adjusted based on your sweetness preference by adding more or less sugar.
- Feel free to experiment with different apple varieties for varied flavors.
