Description

This homemade slow cooker applesauce is made with juicy Golden Delicious apples and flavored with cinnamon and nutmeg.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 10 large apples (I used Golden Delicious)
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar (or more to taste)
  • 1/2 cup water (or apple cider)
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon fresh ground nutmeg

Instructions

  1. Peel, core and cut apples into quarters.
  2. Place in slow cooker, sprinkle sugar, cinnamon, water, lemon juice and nutmeg over apples. Toss to combine.
  3. Cook on low for 5-6 hours or high for 3-4 hours.
  4. When apples are soft, use a potato masher or fork to break up any large chunks. If you want a smooth applesauce, use an immersion blender or let the apples cool and place into a blender and blend until smooth.
  5. Store in refrigerator in an airtight container for up to a week, or freeze for up to 3 months.

Notes

  • This recipe can be adjusted based on your sweetness preference by adding more or less sugar.
  • Feel free to experiment with different apple varieties for varied flavors.
