Description

Delicious and fluffy homemade yeast rolls that are perfect for any meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 packet active dry yeast (2 1/4 tsp)
  • 1/4 cup warm water (about 110°F)
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 3 1/2 to 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • Additional butter for brushing

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, dissolve yeast in warm water. Let it sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
  2. In a saucepan over medium heat, warm the milk until steaming but not boiling. Remove from heat.
  3. In a large bowl, combine the warm milk, sugar, butter, and salt. Stir until butter is melted.
  4. Add the yeast mixture and the egg to the bowl. Mix well.
  5. Gradually add flour, 1 cup at a time, mixing until a soft dough forms.
  6. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 6-8 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  7. Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  8. Punch down the dough and roll it out to about 1/2-inch thickness. Cut into squares.
  9. Place rolls on a greased baking sheet, cover, and let rise again for 30-45 minutes.
  10. Preheat oven to 350°F. Bake rolls for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown.
  11. Brush hot rolls with melted butter before serving.

Notes

  • These rolls are best served fresh but can be stored in an airtight container for 2-3 days.
  • You can also freeze the rolls before baking. Just let them thaw and rise before baking.
